Nikelab is Nike’s platform for creative exploration. It’s a place where Nike collaborated with some of the best designers in the world.
Their newest partnership is with Sacai founder Chitose Abe. Chitose Abe is a Japanese fashion designer. She has worked for “Comme les garcons” for 8 years before launching her brand, Sacai, in 1999.
She was inspired by the Nike archives and she used references from running, tennis and American football. Chitose Abe made a real stunning reinterpretation of Nike’s sportswear collections and gave it a modern twist. The result is a eight piece capsule collection, that blends iconic Nike sports looks with a touch of feminism
For instance, the classic Nike Windrunner is now reinterpreted as a skirt that features beautiful plissé-style pleating. A hooded sweatshirt is now upgraded with a peplum detail. It changes the way you look at sportswear, and kind of gives it the element of suprise, because nothing is what it seems, especially when you’re moving around.
These are sports looks that you’ll be wanting to wear when you’re working out or, in my case, just every day, all day. I love how movement really makes the pieces change and the fabrics and colors look amazing too.
The collection will be available March 19 online in Western Europe, North America, Japan and China at nike.com/nikelab and at Nikelab store locations in New York, London, Paris, Milan, Hong Kong and Shanghai.
